the utah headwaters initiative will triple the acres we protect over the next five years.

The snowpack in our mountains supplies water for the Great Salt Lake watershed. As snow melts, vegetation and soils absorb the water as it percolates into the ground. The excess flows fill our streams, rivers and lakes providing water for drinking and growing food. Our large-scale mountain projects will protect the snow-covered peaks of the Wasatch make us feel at home.

The Summit Land Conservancy is working across four counties of the Wasatch Back to save more land than we ever have before. Over the next five years, we aim to protect approximately 36,000 acres of critical mountain and meadow landscapes.

“Land isn’t something that you own like a hat or a jacket.

Land isn’t a thing.

We can only steward it while we’re lucky enough to have the opportunity to do so.”
